It's common knowledge that the 1973 Preakness was mistimed and Secretariat set a record time that still stands. I don't know why it has taken 39 years to make the correction.. . As for the actual time, don't they have tape of this race where it can be determined what the exact winning time was?. . The record times that Secretariat now holds in ALL three triple crown races testifies to his being the greatest race horse of all time. Think about it, can you name any other timed sporting record that has stood as a record for 39 years?. . Note to the person above me- The NYRA had nothing to do with this decision. The Preakness is run in Baltimore, MARYLAND. It was the Maryland Racing Commission that voted to change the time of the race.
