I went to research refinancing my house after a long nasty divorce. I've been super aggressive in paying off my unsecure debt. After paying off over 35K in unsecure debt in under 3 years, I had my report pulled and I was shocked to find a piddly little *73* dollar debt was dinging my score by 50 points! Not only that, but I paid the account off as soon as I became aware of it nearly two years ago. Now I find this BS might be on my report for 5 more years? How can I get rid of it NOW?. . I guess I made a mistake in paying the CA directly and not going to the provider so I can't cite any HIPAA laws? I hate collection agencies. I so would have appreciated a PHONE CALL before this went off to them (especially since the hospital said everything had been covered)..
