    Unfortunately I would think that to be the case, HOWEVER, there may be an option.... . Given that you are not noting your age, but noting that you are under 18, I would assume you are close. Therefore I would suggest try just a name change first. File suit to change your name, and if the judge says no, because your dad didn't sign off, then amend the case to be for Emancipation and Name Change. Therefore, based on the Emancipation, you wouldn't need your father's approval for the Name Change.. . However, be aware that Emancipation does have its drawbacks. Your mom may no longer get a tax credit for you as a dependent. You may no longer be able to be on her health insurance. However, there may also be benefits...like possibly getting benefits for being destitute. Like not needing your dad to sign off on some things.     If I make a very minor adjustment to my name via deed poll, could there be any problems in the future?     1. Address it to the address given for 'service of notices' in the terms and conditions of your agreement. If there isn't one, ask where it should be sent.. . 2. Clearly show your existing contract number at the head of the letter, after the 'Dear Sirs' but before any text. Something like: "Notice of termination Contract ref ......... (whatever it is)". . 3. Keep it simple.. . 4. For example: "I hereby give 30 days notice of termination of the above contract. Please discontinue service and cease to take payment from the date of termination.". . 5. It is a business notice, not a chatty note so it does not have to be long or deal with anything that is not strictly relevant so keep it short and simple.
